Rosslyn Cinema Returns With Free Family Flicks in June

Outdoor movie nights are back!

By Erica Silverstein June 2, 2021 at 3:43 pm

Reader favorite Rosslyn Cinema is back with free family movie screenings in Gateway Park every Friday night in June.

Catch Wonder Woman 1984 if you haven’t yet seen the 2020 superhero film or enjoy old favorites, like Monsters, Inc., all shown in an outdoor setting against the DC skyline. Make it even more of a fun evening out by dining at one of the nearby restaurants, such as Taco Rock or Barley Mac. No food will be sold at the event, but attendees can pick up picnic snacks or dessert on their way to the park. (Alcohol is not permitted.)

Attendance is limited at the Rosslyn Cinema movie screenings at Gateway Park, located at 1300 Lee Hwy. in Arlington. Movie-goers must register in advance through Eventbrite, beginning the Wednesday prior to each showing. Walk-ups will only be accommodated if there are last-minute cancellations.

Though tickets are free, seats will be assigned based on group size for social-distancing purposes, so attendees must provide an accurate headcount for their party. Groups are limited to six people. It’s a BYOC (bring your own chair) event, but organizers will give each group a Rosslyn-branded blanket to sit on.

If the show sells out, Eventbrite will update availability based on any last-minute cancellations.

Check-in begins at 7:15 p.m., with movies starting at sunset (approximately 8 p.m.). Upon arrival, staff will direct your party to an assigned seating area. Movies will finish up by 10:30 p.m., so plan accordingly if your group includes young children with early bedtimes.

The event is sponsored by the Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID), and movie-goers are asked to comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines. Masks are encouraged for attendees who are not fully vaccinated, and hand-sanitizing options will be available at the park.

Gateway Park is metro-accessible, and parking garages are plentiful in downtown Rosslyn.

Here’s the June movie lineup:

Friday, June 4: La La Land

Friday, June 11: Monsters, Inc.

Friday, June 18: Wonder Woman 1984

Friday, June 25: Cool Runnings
