Want to get the latest details before venturing out to explore the area’s National Parks? A brand new app is at the ready to give you intel on park hours, COVID-19 restrictions, things to do and more.
The DC Area National Parks app was recently launched to help locals and visitors plan their outings before heading out to a park. You can use it to check park alerts, plan your day, select from suggested walking routes, see what special events and ranger programs are offered and even find out the location of the nearest restroom.
When you happen to be out and about, use the location-aware map for a detailed description of a memorial, park or statue you stumble upon, or select a self-guided tour of a National Park for a more immersive, enriching experience. The app’s accessibility features include audio descriptions and location-aware alerts, and features also work in airplane mode when you are away from WiFi.
Included in the app are National Parks in DC as well as nearby parks in Maryland and Virginia like Rock Creek Park, Theodore Roosevelt Island, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Anacostia Park and President’s Park. The app will continuously be updated to reflect COVID-19 restrictions and additions like the recently-opened Eisenhower Memorial.
Please be mindful of CDC guidelines and regulations while visiting parks, and check this site for updated information about the National Mall and area memorials. The new app is available for free in the Apple and Google Play stores.
