The Historic Route 11 Drive-In Theatre in Stephens City — formerly known as the Family Drive-In — is turning 70. And it’s throwing a big bash to celebrate.
On Saturday, June 20, the drive-in is welcoming guests from around the region to celebrate the milestone anniversary. Starting at 5 p.m., movie lovers will be welcomed to join the festivities.
To start the party, the first 70 cars through the gates will receive a voucher for a free medium popcorn. The lucky 70th car will also be awarded with a surprise prize pack.
Once you’re parked, you can join in on the fun. In addition to the drive-in’s playground, which is open to kids during daylight hours, the theater will have a bounce house and other inflatables. You’ll also find giant yard games, including Connect Four, Guess Who, and KerPlunk.
And, what’s a party without cake? The Historic Route 11 Drive-In will have at least three large sheet cakes to hand out to partygoers.
Once the sun starts to set, it’s officially movie time. Toy Story 5, which comes out on June 19, will be one of the four films shown that night. The other films will be announced next week.
While the theater’s actual anniversary is on June 14, the Historic Route 11 theater will be celebrating a week later to escape the rain-filled forecast slated for this weekend.
Access to the 70th anniversary party is included with a regular admission ticket. Tickets to one of the double features is $12 per person.
