Feeling inspired by the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics? You don’t have to just watch — you can try out winter sports yourself. From curling to snowboarding, the Northern Virginia area is filled with opportunities to channel your inner Olympian. Here are four places to practice some of the winter sports you’ll see during the Winter Games.

Skating

SkateQuest

Reston’s SkateQuest — where Olympic figure skater Ilia Malinin trained — is where the beauty of skating meets rigorous training. Equipped with elite coaching staff, this rink is for skaters looking to go beyond the basics. The rink’s “Freestyle Sessions” provide time to practice fancy footwork, alone or with a coach. The “Intense Ice” membership offers complete regimen, including off-ice ballet and conditioning. The “Learn to Skate” sessions are fit for beginners of all ages. Classes and leagues for hockey players are also available. 1800 Michael Faraday Ct., Reston

Hockey

Fairfax Ice Arena

Established in 1973, Fairfax Ice Arena is the place to lace up. This rink is home to the Fairfax Hockey League, catering to beginners and experienced skaters alike. A tiered system allows trainees to begin with basic skating skills and graduate with a hockey clinic. Looking to really get in on the action? Join one of the adult or youth teams or drop in for pick-up hockey sessions. 3779 Pickett Rd., Fairfax

Curling

Loudoun Curling Club

Interested in learning how to play “chess on ice?” The Loudoun Curling Club has got you covered. The facility offers complete introductory classes with “Learn to Curl” lessons on the basics and strategy of the sport. For those looking for their weekly fix, consider joining an official league. Ion International Training Center: 19201 Compass Creek Pkwy., Leesburg

Skiing and Snowboarding

Wintergreen Resort

For those looking to get their fill of mountain air, head to Wintergreen Resort. About a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Dulles, this resort offers a variety of skiing and snowboarding lessons for all ages and skill levels. Beginners can take advantage of the “Fuller Experience Program,” which includes three free lessons and various season discounts. More experienced athletes can partake in any one of their racing leagues. 39 Wintergreen Dr., Roseland
