Enjoy Vibrant Fall Foliage at These 4 NoVA Races

Lace up your running shoes for these scenic autumn events.

Runners, take your mark. Embrace the spirit of autumn with these races throughout Northern Virginia that feature stunning views of the changing leaves. 

Fall Backyard Burn at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston 

Located at Lake Fairfax in Reston, the Fall Backyard Burn features two course length races: 5-mile and a 10-mile. The courses feature very little pavement and no extended climbs but have several short ups and downs. The races are held Sunday, October 19, beginning at 9 a.m. Registration fees vary depending on when you purchase your spot. 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr., Reston 

Fall Harvest 5K in Sterling 

This 5K features scenic forest paths and leaf covered trails at Claude Moore Park on Saturday, October 4. Open to both seasoned runners and walkers, the race costs $35 and starts at 9 a.m. This race also offers a virtual run option for those who cannot make it on race day. 5K Fall Classic in Occoquan 

The 5K Fall Classic — located at the scenic Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton — is the perfect spot to combine physical fitness with stunning views of both the fall foliage and the Occoquan River. The 5K, open to ages 7 to 70, takes place Saturday, November 22 and costs $40. Registration ends Nov. 20. 9751 Ox Rd., Lorton 

Monster Mash Dash in McLean 

On Sunday, October 26, put on your favorite costume and hit the pavement with this 5K or 1-mile fun run that’s sure to get you in the Halloween spirit. The events begin at 8 a.m. at Franklin Sherman Elementary; you can join in the fun in person or virtually. Registration varies from $30 to $40 depending on which option you choose and will increase after September 26. 6633 Brawner St., McLean
