Seeking an adrenaline rush in the thick of summer? Summer tubing at Wintergreen Resort is just the answer.
Glide down The Plunge, the largest snow tubing park in Virginia. It has 10 lanes, and tubers can reach speeds up to 30 mph. Although winter tubing is one of the resort’s most popular attractions, summer tubing offers fun in the sun for both kids and adults.
“As we like to say, It’s all the thrills of winter tubing, just in shorts and a T-shirt,” says Josh Ellwood, marketing manager at Wintergreen Resort.
Wintergreen uses a slippery material called Neveplast that allows for tubing without snow or water. This exciting family-friendly activity is also very accessible. No special skills or equipment is needed — just a drive for adventure.
“Summer tubing at Wintergreen is a must-try for families visiting the Blue Ridge,” says Ellwood. “It’s fast, fun, and completely unique. There’s nothing quite like racing down a 400-foot slope with the mountains as your backdrop.”
Summer tubing is part of the resort’s Discovery Ridge Adventure Center, which offers a variety of outdoor recreation on the mountain. The area has miniature golf, a climbing tower, gem mining, and an indoor ninja course with a bouldering wall. Wintergreen’s Discovery Pass includes unlimited climbing, bungee trampoline, log roller access, and other perks.
Tickets can be purchased online in advance. They are $29 for a two-and-a-half hour tubing session. You can choose between 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 2 to 4:30 p.m. Summer tubing typically operates Thursday through Monday, weather permitting, and is recommended for ages 6 and up.
