Free Outdoor Concert Series Are Kicking Off Around NoVA

Mark your calendars for these fun, free events this spring and summer.

Concert season is almost here, and there’s an abundance of free concert series around Northern Virginia where you can hear great live music outdoors. Dust off your favorite lawn chair, find the perfect spot, and get ready for a summer of great music at these upcoming concert series.

Friday Night Live 

Fridays, May 2–August 22

Featuring popular acts from along the East Coast, Herndon’s outdoor concert series is back for its 31st installment. KleptoRadio kicks off the series on May 2. Under the Covers follows on May 9 with cover songs of everything from pop to dance. Herndon Town Green: 777 Lynn St., Herndon

Tiny Music Fest on Main

Every first Sunday, May 4–September 7

Fairfax will debut a new music series of acoustic performances from a little parking lot on Main Street. It begins with folk artist Lillian Hackett, whom you may recognize from American Idol. Beer and pizza will be available for purchase. Shops on Main Parking Lot: 10409 Main St., Fairfax

Reston Concerts on the Town 

Saturdays, May 17–August 23

Sip and stroll as you listen to great music every single Saturday at these free concerts. Formerly known as the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival, the series will include acts like ABBA tribute band Dancing Dream on May 17 and genre-blending band Everything on May 31. City of Fairfax Rock the Block

Every fourth Friday, May–October

Grab your chairs and blankets and prepare for a good time at the return of Rock the Block. Join the Fairfax community in enjoying live music, a beer garden, and delicious food. Keep an eye on the website for acts to be announced. Old Town Square: 10415 North St., Fairfax

Summerbration at Reston Station

Fridays, May 30–September 29

This year’s Summerbration free concert series will feature events such as the third annual Taylor Swift tribute act July 4, and Bruce Springsteen homage band Bruce in the USA on September 5. In addition to live music on Fridays, the event series will also have free fitness classes and outdoor movies. Reston Metro Plaza: 1900 Reston Metro Plz., Reston

Fort Hunt Concerts

Sundays, June 1–August 31

This historic Fort Hunt Park is hosting a series of free concerts for all ages, including the National Concert Band of America, comprised of veterans and civilian musicians. Bring a blanket, as the picnic table space is limited. Fort Hunt Park at Pavilion A: 8999 Fort Hunt Rd., Alexandria

Summer Jams in Leesburg

Saturdays, June 7–August 23

Grab your blanket and jam out with friends and family in downtown Leesburg. It starts with the steel drum band Carribean Vibe on June 8, followed by pop-rock duo Tommy and Kim on June 15. Plus, this year you can bring your own beer and wine to the events. Leesburg Town Green: 25 W. Market St., Leesburg

257th Army Band

Saturday, July 12

Show your patriotism and enjoy this free concert from official the musical ambassador for the D.C. Army National Guard. Having performed across the world, including musical support for the inauguration of President Barack Obama, hear the beautiful music that earned the ensemble the title of “The Band of the Nation’s Capital.” River Mill Park: 458 Mill St., Occoquan
