This year’s 2025 Chipotle-USA Hockey Girls Tier II 16U National Championship will take place right in Northern Virginia. This is the first time the DC area will host a USA Hockey National Championship game for girls, and the games are completely free and open to the public.
The tournament will take place at the Ashburn Ice House and The St. James in Springfield, with games running from April 2 to 6.
During the tournament, 28 teams of youth players from 16 different states will compete for a national title in girls’ hockey. Northern Virginia is one of 11 locations across 10 states to host a USA Hockey National Championship.
Visit Fairfax and Visit Loudoun used their partnership with SportsNOVA to collaborate for a bid to host the events.
“Hosting this National Championship is indeed a great honor, and we look so forward to showcasing Northern Virginia’s hospitality and passion for sports tourism,” said Barry Biggar, president and CEO of Visit Fairfax.
The tournament’s anticipated regional economic impact is $1.2 million. This coincides with a trend of a growing sports tourism industry. A 2023 study from the Virginia Tourism Corporation and Tourism Economics said sports tourism generated 2.7 billion for the commonwealth in 2022, a 12 percent spike from the previous year.
“Securing this prestigious tournament for the region is not only a testament to our growing reputation as a premier sports destination but also a testament to our commitment to fostering economic growth in the community,” said Beth Erickson, president and CEO of Visit Loudoun.
