Weekend Fun: Musicals, Tea Parties, and Christmas in July

You’ll have no shortage of options for things to do this weekend, whether you love to sing Beatles tunes, want to meet Peter Pan, or get into the spirit of Key West.

From live music to tea parties, there’s excitement in the air with concerts and kid-friendly activities this weekend. Check out these sunny and festive events the weekend of July 19–21.

Abbey Road: A Tribute to The Beatles

July 19, 7–9 p.m.

Sing along to your favorite songs by The Beatles at this concert performed by the Abbey Road tribute band. Bring family and friends for a night of outdoor music. And, no, nobody will stop you from dancing. Reston Station: 1900 Reston Metro Plz., Reston, free

La bohème

July 19, 8 p.m.

Experience grand melodies in this heart-wrenching and romantic Giacomo Puccini opera about Parisian bohemians. While the opera is sung in Italian, there will be English captions. Radio host and producer Mary Jo Heath, who was the Voice of the Met for 15 seasons, gives a pre-show talk about her experience in the opera industry at 7 p.m. on the Farmhouse Lawn. The Sound of Music

July 19–28, times vary

The hills are alive with Encore Stage’s rendition of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical. Listen to tunes like “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” and “Edelweiss” during this two-and-a-half-hour performance based on the original, full-length Broadway version. On Saturday, July 20, attend the $8 pre-show event at 1 p.m. where you can make your own bouquet. Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre: 125 S. Old Glebe Rd., Arlington, $18–$22

Anniversary Party

July 20, 1–6 p.m.

Shipgarten celebrates two years as a Tysons biergarten with this family-friendly event. Try to dunk the owners in the splash tank, visit the kids’ corner for face painting and a moon bounce, or get wet in a water balloon fight. The David Thong Trio plays. Over 40 beer and cider samples will be available, along with food, competitions, and prizes. Shipgarten: 7581 Colshire Dr., Tysons, free

Countdown to Christmas Craft Show

July 20–21

Begin holiday festivities early with this Christmas craft show featuring over 100 vendors. Peruse art, handmade gifts, ornaments, artisanal foods, pet products, and more. Disney’s The Aristocats KIDS

July 20, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Directed by Natalia Settipani, this children’s performance of Disney’s 1970 animated film The Aristocats is filled with laughter and adventure as alley cat Thomas O’Malley works to rescue high-society cat Duchess and her kittens from a catnap. Key West Festival

July 20, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.

Enjoy Southern Florida charm with Caribbean music and island-themed vendors at this vineyard’s Key West Fest. Listen to Tobago Bay between 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the Chris Sacks Band between 3 and 6 p.m. Compete in the crazy hat contest at 2 p.m. Food options include The Polished Foxx, Island Favorites, BonBurger, and Grutos. Neverland Tea Party

July 20, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.; 2:30–4:30 p.m.

Faith, trust, and pixie dust! Attend one of the ARTfactory’s tea parties for stories, songs, and food inspired by your favorite characters from Neverland. Meet Wendy, Peter Pan, and Tinkerbell. You can buy prince and princess accessory bundles. Plus, there will be a Christmas in July holiday market during the party. ARTfactory: 9419 Battle St., Manassas, $45–$55

Purcellville Wine & Food Festival

July 20, 2–8 p.m.

Spend a leisurely Saturday at Dillon’s Woods for this 11th annual event where you’ll taste various wines and bites to eat. The Darby Brothers, Juliana & The Agreeables, and the Chris Timbers Band will perform. Fireman’s Field: 250 S. Nursery Ave., Purcellville, $10 admission, plus drink tickets

Sunflower Brunch at The Stable

July 20–21, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Bring family and friends to this relaxing three-course brunch at Bluemont Vineyard. The brunch features produce and herbs from Great Country Farms and baked goods from Knead It Bakery. You’ll be able to buy wine, mimosas, and seasonal sangrias. After brunch, visit Great Country Farms and cut some sunflowers for your own bouquet.
