Where to Take a Polar Plunge Around NoVA and DC

Support local charities by taking a chilly swim this winter.

By Michele Kettner January 18, 2024 at 11:02 am

Want to take this cold winter weather to an extreme level? Take a polar plunge. It will probably be the coldest you’ve ever been, but all proceeds for these events are donated toward great causes, so it’s worth it. If you’re brave enough to face the frigid water, sign up for one of these polar plunges in NoVA and DC.

Mosaic Polar Plunge

January 20, noon–2 p.m.

This weekend is perfect for a polar plunge. With a high of 25 degrees on Saturday, you’ll definitely get the most out of this pool plunge. Make sure to wear your wackiest outfits to compete in the costume contest. Mosaic District: District Ave., Fairfax, participants must raise $100 to participate

Kiwanis Polar Dip

February 10, 12:30–2 p.m.

The annual Reston Dip is a go. Sign up as an individual or a team and line up to jump into the frigid waters of Lake Anne. Those who register before January 31 will be guaranteed an event T-shirt. Fundraising efforts will benefit Food for Neighbors, Friends of Reston, Camp Sunshine, and Kiwanis Youth Programs throughout the region. Lake Anne Village Plaza: 1609 Washington Plz. N., Reston, participants must raise $100 to participate

Prince William Plunge

February 17, 11 a.m.

Head to Woodbridge for your chance to plunge into the Potomac River at Leesylvania State Park. The event will also feature food trucks, music, and a best-dressed contest. Plungers can sign up for the 5K Run/Waddle to warm up before they jump into the icy river. Leesylvania State Park: 2001 Daniel K. Ludwig Dr., Woodbridge, participants must raise $100 to participate, $45 for the 5K, $35 for fun run

DC Polar Plunge

February 24, 12:30–4 p.m.

Cross over the bridge to support the Special Olympics DC. The pop-up swimming pool at Yards Park will be filled to the brim with freezing cold water. We’re sure a trip to the ice bar will help warm you up after your dive. Yards Park: 355 Water St. SE, Washington, DC, $10 and participants must raise $100 to participate
