A new National Cherry Blossom Festival event at Tysons provides the perfect opportunity to dust of your bike helmet and go for a ride.
Tysons Community Alliance, a new nonprofit organization designed to promote economic and social development in Tysons, announced plans to launch a free family-friendly bike ride in coordination with the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
The Pedal With Petals Family Bike Ride takes place on Sunday, April 2 at Tysons Corner Center. Participants of all ages can take part in a guided ride around the perimeter of the mall. In addition to the ride, TCA will host activities, including a cherry blossom-themed bike decorating station, face painting, and live music at The Plaza at Tysons Corner.
“We are absolutely thrilled to finally launch this inaugural event and our participation with the National Cherry Blossom Festival,” said TCA board chair Josh White.
“Being a part of such an iconic and beloved festival that brings people from all over the world to the greater Washington region was something the TCA wanted to implement in its events program from the start.”
The first ride will kick off at 8:15 a.m., followed by three more rides every 30 minutes. Rides are expected to take about 15 minutes to complete. Riders will be guided by volunteer bike marshals from the Fairfax Alliance for Better Biking.
Free bikes will be provided at the Capital Bikeshare at Tysons Metro station while supplies last, and Trek Bicycles will provide free bike repairs.
“The Festival and Tysons Community Alliance brands are a natural match with their emphasis on community,” said acting CEO Rich Bradley. “A family bike ride serves to connect the community to the mobility aspirations of our urban center. We anticipate the ride course to expand annually as we realize future trail network growth planned for Tysons.”
The event is free, but participants must register online.
