A New Luxury, Dine-in Theater Is Set to Open in Tysons Corner

The region’s first CMX CinéBistro will take over the space in Tysons Galleria that was previously held by Macy’s.

Updated September 9, 2022. Cinephiles, rejoice! A new luxury theater is opening in Tysons Corner. It’ll be the second location in the Northern Virginia area, with the first located in Leesburg. CMX CinéBistro Tysons Galleria opens on Friday, October 14.

The theater will offer a rustic, New American menu and cocktails from a team of mixologists. The executive chefs at every CMX location are formally trained and have experience working at restaurants from around the country.

CMX CEO Patrick Ryan says what really sets CMX’s menu apart from other theaters is that food is served in-theater while customers are sitting in a plush recliner, paired with the latest in movie technology.

The food isn’t just your typical popcorn and candy either — entrees include steak au poivre with duck fat truffled pommes frites. You can pair that with a cabernet from CMX’s wine selection. Vegetarians will be pleased with food like artichoke cakes with Old Bay remoulade and Brazilian tomato slaw. Of course, if you want to nosh on more comfort food, the menu offers burgers and chicken bowls, too. Kids (and kids at heart) will be happy to hear milkshakes also available.

Food is available both in-theater and at the CMX Stone Sports Bar in the lobby.

The latest in cinematic technology used by CMX include laser projectors and D-BOX haptic motion technology. The first movie showing for the grand opening next month is Don’t Worry Darling, starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh and directed by Olivia Wilde.

“It’s great to be able to open alongside the premiere of such a sophisticated film,” said Guy Austin, vice president of film and operations for CMX in a press release. “We’re really looking forward to elevating the dinner and movie experience for our region.”

Guests will need to arrive 30 minutes before their movie time to partake in in-theater dining. After that, self-service at concessions is available. Patrons ages 3-20 are welcome at shows 8 p.m. or earlier. After that, the theater is a 21-plus establishment with ID required.

CMX first opened in 2017 in Miami. Now, there are multiple types of CMX experiences, including the CMX CinéBistro described above, a CMX Market Cinema with grab-and-go concessions, and CMX Premium, an upgraded traditional movie theater with classic food like popcorn and candy.

CMX has 32 locations across the country with 358 screens and over 2,000 employees.
