Cirque du Soleil Will Return to Tysons this Summer

This summer, get ready to join the cast of KURIOS as you make your way into the Cabinet of Curiosities.

After several years, a Cirque du Soleil show that is bound to leave you at least a little “KURIOS” is making its return to NoVA.

KURIOS — Cabinet of Curiosities premieres July 29 and audiences are invited to escape reality and step under the iconic Big Top at Lerner Town Square at Tysons II for a limited series of performances.

Premiered in Montreal in 2014, KURIOS has mesmerized over 4.5 million spectators in 30 cities worldwide with over 2,000 performances brought to life by its cast of 49 world-class artists.

KURIOS brings you inside the mechanical lab of an inventor convinced that there exists a hidden, invisible world. Once the inventor succeeds in unlocking the door to this world of wonders, time comes to a complete stop and a cast of otherworldly characters invades his curio cabinet, bringing his makeshift creations to life one by one.

“The show is set during the industrial revolution or during that 50-year period where life changed more than it ever had before,” explains artistic director Rachel Lancaster. “Whereas now things move at an accelerated pace. There’s lots of references all throughout the show.”

And there are a number of acts that were created specifically for KURIOS and can only be seen in KURIOS, she adds.

What goes into Cirque du Soleil?

“Cirque du Soleil shows are the perfect combination of beautiful aesthetics and extremely high levels of physical performance and storytelling,” describes Lancaster. “We push the boundaries, as far as the range of acrobatics, as well as character. It’s just a really unique blend that you only really get with Cirque du Soleil.”

Premiered in Montreal in 2014, KURIOS has been seen by over 4.5 million spectators in 30 cities worldwide with over 2,000 performances brought to life by its cast of 49 world-class artists.

“We are thrilled to be returning to Tysons. When we were there in 2016, it was a sold-out run,” says Lancaster. “We’re excited to be back at work. Post-pandemic everyone feels very honored to be returning these big stories back to audiences.
