Light Bright
It’s been years since I’ve attended Montreal’s Gardens of Light, an exhibition of Chinese lanterns at the city’s botanical garden. It used to be a tradition for me, and I have to admit, I’m a sucker for big, vaguely gaudy light displays of all stripes. So obviously, I have no choice but to bathe myself in the colors of LuminoCity Festival, a giant specimen of precisely that taking place at Roer’s Zoofari. Another Stab
I’m going to muster up all my courage and go see the original Halloween (1978) at the Alamo Drafthouse on Halloween night! I’ve seen it a million times on TV, but even hearing that theme music sends shivers down my spine. And yet I am mysteriously compelled to go be terrified in Loudoun. –Kelly Kendall, editor
Frights Await
This week I’m moving my family’s Christmas tradition of driving around to look at the neighborhood lights and decorations up to Halloween. Every year it seems like more and more houses are putting out their best frights, and as a fellow Halloween decorator I love taking in the unique designs. I’ll be packing up the car with my niece and nephews and heading down to Alexandria to see the infamous 12-foot skeleton and the other eerie homes on Captain’s Row. –Michele Kettner, associate digital & research editor
