Vegging Out
My other half just gifted me with an at-home Korean barbecue grill. The meat-eating in our house has never been better, but we’re really missing banchan. The solution? I’m going to start making my own pickles. I don’t have a garden, so the best way to get a constant stream of fun veggies is to join a CSA. The one at Great Country Farms in Bluemont will let me pick and choose from the weekly produce so I never get a veggie I don’t like. –Alice Levitt, food editor/critic

Cicada Season
Now that it is May, the countdown to Brood X is probably just days away. While the idea of these insects buzzing past my head everytime I take my dogs out is less than pleasant, I’m loving all of these fun cicada-themed activities popping up around the region. From cicada bingo to cicada ceramics, it seems like there are new bug-inspired events every week. This week, I’m excited to pick up a ceramic cicada, a symbol of good luck, to adorn my front porch. Hopefully my house won’t become a cicada hub. –Michele Kettner, associate digital & research editor

Thai’ing One On
After one visit to Tiki Thai, the Reston outpost of Sense of Thai St., I am an instant fan. I’m taking out-of-town family there and know they’ll love it too–who doesn’t love tiki drinks?–but what I’m really craving is a fried-shrimp taco drizzled in Sriracha mayo and wrapped in roti bread. That and two Mai Tais, and my night will be made. –Kelly Kendall
