6 local bakeries offering DIY cookie decorating kits

Skip the chocolate chip cookies and start preparing for Santa’s arrival with some of these festive DIY cookies.

With the holidays comes the thick of baking season. While everyone loves the smell of sweets running through their home, not everyone has the time to make cookies from scratch. This weekend, whether you want to skip the baking process or spend a fun afternoon just decorating with the family, stop by one of these local bakeries to pick up a cookie decorating kit. 

Buttercream Bakeshop 

Make your way to DC for these festive cookie kits. This decorating kit includes lemon and vanilla infused sugar cookies, buttercream and two sets of sprinkles. All kits must be picked up on Dec. 22 or 23. // 1250 Ninth St. NW, Washington, DC; $25

Cake Time

Pick up a kit from Cake Time and have a family cookie decorating contest. Choose from four different holiday kits, that include ugly sweaters, Christmas designs, winter wonderland and Hanukkah, for all of your decorating needs. // 4300 Chantilly Shopping Center, Suite 1H, Chantilly; $30-$32.50

Dollhouse Bakery 

Home bakery Dollhouse Bakery has all of your cookie needs. Guests can choose between the Let it Snow DIY kit and the Paint Your Own Cookies kit, which comes in santa, gingerbread house and sleigh designs. All supplies and instructions are included. // 197 Cedar Walk Circle NE, Leesburg; $6-$35

Fran’s Cake and Candy Supplies

Show off your decorating skills with a kit from Fran’s Cake and Candy Supplies. Both the Winter Cookie Kit and Christmas Cookie Kit come with eight pre-baked cookies, royal icing and sprinkles. A virtual cookie decorating class will be available Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. if you would like tips and tricks to creating the best holiday desserts.
