Get Some Thrills with DC Shorts Summer Chills online film festival

DC Shorts kicks off a virtual showcase of thrillers and horror films on July 28 for scary-movie fans.

By Katie Bianco July 27, 2020 at 3:27 pm

Let’s be honest: The ongoing pandemic has made life feel like a real-life scary movie lately, but, if the latest headlines aren’t scary enough—or if you just want a break from the barrage of depressing news—DC Shorts has got a great distraction.

The organization behind the annual DC Shorts International Film Festival is presenting a summer cinema break with an all online fest: DC Shorts Summer Chills.

The virtual showcase, which runs Tuesday, July 28 through Sunday, Aug. 2, will give movie buffs an opportunity to watch nine short thriller and horror films from the comfort of their couch (or hiding under their covers).

In addition to the nine films, Summer Chills, will offer an interactive component with a Filmmaker Talkback on Zoom on Wednesday, July 29 at noon, featuring filmmakers from the short films taking questions from virtual participants.

“Thriller and horror genres are two of the most popular, so DC Shorts has put together some of the best short films in these genres that’ll be found in one place,” said Joe Bilancio, DC Shorts director of programming, via a recent press release. “Are you afraid of the dark, but like it? Do you enjoy the adrenaline rush of thrillers? Before you go to bed at night, do you check under the bed for monsters, hoping to find them? If you answered yes to any of the questions or just love all things horror and thriller, we’ve got a fun series of shorts for you.”

Online tickets are $12 for all nine films and can be purchased here. DC Shorts annual festival is scheduled for Sept. 10 to 23 later this year.
