From watching the remainder of professional seasons get canceled to the postponement of the Olympics, the sports world is on hold.
Even community recreation leagues have watched teams disappear and fields go quiet. But FXA Sports, a Fairfax County adult rec organization, is bringing the competition back into homes across the region by following social distancing guidelines with esports leagues and virtual 5K races.
In esports, the organization that typically hosts seasonal games and tournaments for over 10 sports (ranging from softball to bowling), now has scheduled tournaments for FIFA20, NBA2K20, MADDEN NFL 20, MLB The Show 20, NHL20 and Rocket League.
Players can join leagues online individually or team up with friends, and join weekend single-elimination tournaments for just $5 (per team or single player).
If getting out for a run is more your speed, FXA Sports is hosting its third (of four total) virtual 5K this week through Sunday, April 26, where participants can join for $8, track their route (or log miles on a treadmill) and share on social media.
Every person who completes the race and shares their results will receive a finisher’s packet, to be picked up at FXA Sports headquarters, that includes league swag gear and a finisher’s dog tag.
The organization hopes to restart summer leagues after the stay-at-home order is scheduled to be lifted on Wednesday, June 10, but no official dates or leagues have been confirmed as of publication.
