Attention movie-goers: There is now a 4DX theater in NoVA

Located in Brambleton Town Center, this new feature heightens the cinematic experience with motion-enabled chairs and simulated weather conditions.

Going to the movies in Northern Virginia just became even more exciting, thanks to the installation of 4DX technology in the Regal Fox Theatre in Ashburn.

Here’s how it works: You take a seat in the comfortable chairs of the theater as you normally would, yet this time as the action takes place on the screen, it feels as if you are right there with it, through motion and sound effects inducing your bodily senses of smell, touch and hearing. If there’s a storm happening in the scene, you’ll feel it too, with special effects like wind, fog, rain, lightning and more occurring in the theater.

The innovative technology was officially unveiled in Brambleton Town Center’s theater earlier this month, following six months of construction and updates to one screening room. The entirety of Regal Fox is still under renovation, as the rest of the viewing rooms with regular 2D screenings are being updated, as well.

“It was a pretty high-level decision,” says Director of Marketing for Brambleton, Kim Adams, of the 4DX experience. “Regal looked at its theaters in the area, and they wanted to add this [4DX] in one of the top-performing sites.”

While the 4DX technology is installed in 565 auditoriums across the globe, Ashburn’s 4DX location is the 24th in the United States, as part of a larger deal with Regal’s parent company Cineworld Group, to bring the total number of 4DX theaters in the coming years to 85.

The safety guidelines listed on Regal’s website are similar to that of a roller coaster, with phrases like, “Children should be seated near their parents or guardians,” and “Once the feature has started, remain seated at all times unless you are exiting the auditorium.”

Think you’re ready for the ride? Regal Fox is showcasing Frozen II in its 4DX theater, now.
