Love Pokémon? Head to DC for the World Championships

The August event is expected to gather thousands of fans together, featuring the world’s elite Pokémon Trading Card Game and video game players from more than 45 countries.

Pikachu is coming to town! Fans of the popular Pokémon character can head into the District from Aug. 16 to 18 for the 2019 Pokémon World Championships.

Thousands of Trading Card Game and video game players from more than 45 countries will be competing at the event, being held at Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Players will compete for the title of Pokémon TCG, Video Game and Pokkén Tournament World Champion, with the prizes equaling more than $500,000 in scholarships.

The family-friendly event will feature head-to-head battles, costumed characters, non-competitive play and opening and closing ceremonies.
