On Saturday, Aug. 24, men, women and children across the region will don their finest white attire for the sixth annual Diner En Blanc in Washington, DC. While the concept, which involves thousands of people gathering in a designated public space for a chic feast, originated in Paris, it has since turned into a global affair, spanning across six continents.
The joy of it all comes from the mystery: the event is at an undisclosed location somewhere in the city. At the very last minute, each attendee will find out where to go, throw on an all-white ensemble and pack a picnic basket that must include white tablecloths to match the theme.
While last year’s event was held at Nationals Park, where 5,000 guests reveled in the celebration, this year’s location will continue to remain a secret until the event gets closer. In the past, Diner en Blanc has been hosted at the Lincoln Memorial and Carnegie Library.
The 2019 registration process will be separated into three phrases, beginning in July. Priority will be given to those who have attended previously, followed by new members who are sponsored by previous attendees. The third and final phase is reserved for eager individuals who have been on the waiting list.
As of now, the waiting list is open for registration.
