Get into the red, white and blue spirit with these events to celebrate America’s 242nd birthday.

Warrenton Town Limits
June 28, 3 p.m.
Known as the largest community-wide celebration in Fauquier County, this event is sure to bring entertainment to all with over 100 local food vendors, a fun-zone area for children, a performance by the U.S. Army Drill Team and so much more just a few days before the Fourth. // Warrenton Aquatic and Recreation Facility: 800 Waterloo Road, Warrenton; free 

An American Celebration
July 4, 8 a.m.
Celebrate America’s independence at Mount Vernon. Watch military re-enactments, enjoy daytime fireworks and chat with the Washingtons. // George Washington’s Mount Vernon: 3200 Mount Vernon Highway, Mount Vernon; $12-$20

Firecracker 5K for the Troops
July 4, 8 a.m.
Get up early and celebrate the holiday with a 5K run. Pre-registered runners receive a free shirt and all participants get a special event medal. // Reston Town Center: 11911 Democracy Drive, Reston; $30-$45

Fourth of July Hometown Celebration and Parade
July 4, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
Whether you want to fit in an exercise via the Great Falls Freedom Memorial 5K or hope to give back as part of the INOVA Blood Drive, this community celebration has it all. Plus, don’t forget to come early and save a spot for the main parade starting at 10 a.m. // Great Falls Village Centre Green: 776 Walker Road, Great Falls; free  

Fairfax Fourth of July Parade
July 4, 10 a.m.-noon
Start the celebration early at the 53rd annual parade in Fairfax. This special event, featuring handmade floats, nine high school marching bands and more, brings about 8,000 members of the community and beyond together to honor America. // Starts at 4100 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax; free 

Leesburg Independence Day Parade
July 4, 10 a.m.
Line up your chairs and put your blankets down along King Street and Fairfax Street in Leesburg for the best views of the floats. Don’t miss the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps as they kick off the parade. // Ida Lee Park: 60 Ida Lee Drive NW, Leesburg; free

Independence Day Concert
July 4, 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
Travel into DC for a special performance by the United States Air Force Band’s Ceremonial Brass Quintet. Each concert will last about 20 minutes. // National Air and Space Museum: Independence Ave. at Sixth St., SW, Washington, DC; free

Celebrate America
July 4, 3 p.m.
Come to Historic Manassas for an afternoon of fun with kid-friendly games. Once it gets dark, witness one of the largest fireworks displays in NoVA. // Historic Downtown Manassas: 9431 West St., Manassas; free

Town of Herndon Fourth of July
July 4, 6:30 P.M.
After a day of partying, come out to Bready Park for some family fun events. Play games, bingo and create crafts to wind down before the big finale. Wrap up the night with a fireworks display synchronized with music. // Bready Park: 814 Ferndale Ave., Herndon; free
