Tour these NoVA historic homes decorated for Christmas

It’s Christmas time, and these historic homes are offering candlelight tours to get a glimpse of what the holidays were like in the old days.

A Victorian Christmas
Dec. 15, 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. 
Alexandria’s Lee-Fendall House will celebrate a Victorian-era Christmas, with special decorations, holiday crafts, seasonal treats, story time and pictures with Santa. // Lee-Fendall House: 614 Oronoco St., Alexandria; $10

Candlelight Tours
Dec. 15, 4 p.m.
Take a step back into Christmas past at the Lee home at Sully Historic Site with special candlelit tours. Guests can also make their own ornaments while enjoying seasonal music, cider and cookies. Those interested in tours should register for a time slot. //Sully Historic Site: 3650 Historic Sully Way, Chantilly; $10

Candlelight Mansion Tour
Dec. 15, 6-8 p.m.
The Oaltands Historic House, originally home to the Carter plantation and later William and Edith Eustis, welcomes visitors after hours to see the mansion’s Christmas lights and old-fashioned decorations. Candlelight tours can be enjoyed at your own pace, with other entertainment like music in the Drawing Room and cider and cookies also available. // Oatlands Historic House and Gardens: 20850 Oatlands Plantation Lane, Leesburg; $15 (adults), $12 (seniors & military), $10 (6-16)

A 19th Century Christmas
Dec. 15-16
The kids can visit Santa on Saturday morning, but after he departs, the house still has plenty to offer with gorgeous holiday decorations and live period music. // Ellwood Manor: 36380 Constitution Highway, Locust Grove; Free

Mount Vernon by Candlelight
Dec. 16, 5 p.m.
Experience a lantern-lit tour of the grounds decorated for the holidays. At the end of the tour, enjoy dancing, caroling, cookies and warm cider. // George Washington’s Mount Vernon: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon; $25

Holidays Through the Ages
Through Dec. 22, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Get a taste of what the holidays were like at Rippon Lodge from the Colonial era to the 1940s as the house is decked out inside and out. // Rippon Lodge: 15520 Blackburn Road, Woodbridge; $5

Morven Park Holiday Tours
Through Dec. 23, noon-5 p.m.
The Davis mansion at Morven Park is all decked out for the holidays. Come see the lavish decorations and learn how early 20th–century Christmas customs evolved into the traditions we know and love today. // Morven Park: 17195 Southern Plantern Lane, Leesburg; $10 (adult), $5 (6-12)

Home for the Holidays
Through Dec. 30, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Gari Melchers Home and Studio is decorated for the holidays in the spirit and style of the renowned painter and his wife Corinne. // Gari Melchers Home and Studio: 224 Washington St., Falmouth; included in general admission fee
