Sara Evans brings Christmas to the Birchmere

The country music star will return to the NoVA area to spread the holiday cheer.

By Michael Balderston December 5, 2018 at 10:00 am

In what has become a holiday tradition, country music star Sara Evans will return to Northern Virginia for a one-night only performance at the Birchmere in Alexandria as part of her nine-city At Christmas tour. Evans released the album, At Christmas, in 2014.

“The album I’m so proud of because I love Christmas music anyway—I mean, who doesn’t love Christmas music,” Evans says.

Evans makes these tours a family affair as her brother plays bass, her sister sings harmony and her son is the lead guitarist in her band, while her sister-in-law does her hair and makeup.

Evans will perform holiday classics like “O Holy Night” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”—which she says reminds her of Christmases as a child at her grandparents’ house—and the original eponymous song, written by Shane Stevens and Toby Lightman, as well as songs from her latest album, Words. The band Fairground Saints will serve as Evans’ opening act. // Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m., The Birchmere: 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria; $69.50
