Because Thursday is practically the weekend, here are three events to look forward to.

Dennis Crayon Solo Show Opening Reception
June 5, 5-8 p.m. // Combining modern composition with classical painting, Dennis Crayon enjoys portraying the relationship between objects and light in his work. The title of his solo show, which has an opening reception on Friday at Gallery Underground in Crystal City, is “Fragments of Everyday Life.” // Gallery Underground: 2100 Crystal Drive, Arlington; free

 

5th Annual Capital Classic Strongman Challenge
June 6, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. // For those who are interested in watching very fit men and women lift, carry, press, pull and push heavy objects, this event is for you. Weight lifters and bodybuilders from the region will compete to become the next “Nation’s Capital Strongest Man and Woman,” and this year’s winner of the World’s Strongest Man competition, Brian Shaw, will be there to meet fans. // The Edge 2.0: 8500B Tyco Road, Vienna; $10, free for children 12 and under

 

An Evening with the Creators of Serial: Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder
June 6, 8 p.m. // “Serial” was the first podcast in iTunes history to reach 5 million downloads. Now, fans of the podcast—and really anyone interested in the game of modern journalism—can meet the producers of the show and hear them discuss what lead to the podcast and how, with a few risks, they created something huge.
