Harrisonburg

This year marks the 11th annual Children’s Poetry Camp at James Madison University presented by The Furious Flower, the nation’s only academic center devoted to African American poetry. With three workshops a day and this year’s theme of “Construction Zone: Building Meaning,” participants are sure to build upon their creativity skills.

Each workshop has a 1-to-4 ratio of adults to children and consists of 15 campers and four instructors—a degreed poetry professional and three camp counselors. This day camp starts at 9 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m. on the JMU campus. Lunch and snacks are provided and scholarships are available upon request by emailing furiousflower@jmu.edu.

If your child loves to play, Camp UREC can be their playground. Held at the JMU Rec Center, this weekly children’s day camp provides a space for action, creativity and fun for your child. -Rebecca Norris
