As the owner of Vienna-based Skin Facial Bar and more than 16 years of experience as a licensed master esthetician, Christina Kim is proud to make her skin care services more than a salon experience. She has dealt with her own experience with skin conditions (including psoriasis and an autoimmune thyroid-related disorder), and seeks to meet her clients where they are in their skin care journey, both physically and emotionally. Here, she shares what makes serving Northern Virginia just so special for her.
What does it mean to you to be able to serve the Northern Virginia community with your expertise?
My work is centered around helping people feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin and it’s very rewarding to be able to do this in my own hometown. Being Korean-American, I have been integrating Korean and western skin care concepts because I believe there are compelling benefits on both sides of the spectrum. I’m so grateful to be able to share the knowledge and experience that I’ve gained in all aspects of skin with the Northern Virginia community.
If there was one thing you would want readers to know about you or Skin Facial Bar, what would it be?
Everyone is unique, and we all face our own issues and often struggles when it comes to taking care of our skin. When I opened Skin Facial Bar, I set out to offer personalized skin care. Through customized facials, personalized home-care regimens and professional skin care advice, my goal is helping each client achieve and maintain beautiful, healthy skin.
We’ve all been in quarantine for a while, what’s something new that you have discovered about NoVA during this time that you love?
Over the past few months, there’s been an unexpected upside to quarantine. I was able to spend more time outdoors and appreciate nature. Hiking around the lake on Burke Lake Trail has been very relaxing and enjoyable during these uncertain times … I’ve discovered that Northern Virginia is a happy place for nature lovers!
What do you love about living and working in Northern Virginia?
People are so ethnically and culturally diverse here in NoVA. I love being able to interact with a variety of people daily. Every day my clients and challenges are different. I also love the distinct season changes. As the seasons change, so can your skin and the care it needs. Being able to find different ways to resolve my clients’ skin concerns keep both myself and my clients inspired and satisfied.
