Meet the The Sorn Thai Team

With more than 20 years of expertise in the restaurant business, Kamol is the decision-maker and the guiding force behind Sorn Thai. His knowledge and leadership ensure that everything runs smoothly, and he constantly strives to enhance the dining experience.

Boom, Chawalita, and Nalinee will make sure that every visit to Sorn Thai feels like a visit home. You will find Boom interacting with Sorn Thai’s guests and ensuring all leave with a smile. Growing up in Suratthani, a beautiful province in Southern Thailand, Boom was surrounded by the rich and vibrant flavors of Southern Thai cuisine. Opening Sorn Thai has been her way of bringing a piece of home closer to her family and sharing it with all of you.

Enjoy delightful craft cocktails curated by Chawalita. Her extensive experience in bartending will enhance your dining experience with cocktails that perfectly complement Sorn Thai’s Southern Thai dishes. Nalinee dedicates her time and attention to training the expert staff at Sorn Thai and ensures that everything is in place to provide you with a seamless dining experience. Kamol and Boom are the people behind Donsak in DC, now expanding to McLean.

Experience Dishes from Southern Thailand

Sorn Thai is more than just a restaurant; it’s a tribute to Boom’s beloved grandmother, Sorn, whose recipes inspire the house specials. Sorn Thai’s extensive menu offers delightful Southern Thai cuisine influenced by the region’s rich and vibrant flavors. Begin your culinary journey to Southern Thailand with Larb Gai – a salad of minced chicken, onions, scallions, lettuce, roasted rice powder spices, and a special lime juice seasoning. Enjoy Sorn Thai’s small plates, perfect to share when dining with friends. Grilled Sirloin Steak Num Tok along with Steamed Butterfly Dumplings make the perfect introduction to Southern Thai cuisine.

Sorn Thai offers curry dishes that are a must-try. Curry dishes are made with the diner’s choice of chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, seafood, tofu, or vegetables and are served with jasmine or brown rice. Try the house special curries – red curry duck or massaman beef curry.

Sorn’s Obsessions, such as Chu Chee Maine Lobster or Moo Hong, a Southern Thai–style pork belly stew, will become your new obsession. Be sure to experience Gaeng Som, Southern Thai–style sour curry made with prawns, green papaya, and kaffir lime leaves. Sorn Thai gives a unique take on classic Thai dishes, such as Cashew Chicken and Crispy Duck Ka Pow.

Sorn Thai serves brunch Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on on the weekends from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Experience traditional brunch dishes – avocado toast and homemade pancakes and waffles or venture to try Thai Congee, rice porridge served with minced chicken balls, shiitake mushrooms, and a housemade Thai donut.

For a unique brunch, try Sorn’s butternut squash. Sourdough bread is grilled to golden perfection, topped with roasted butternut squash, thyme, whipped herb ricotta, pomegranate seeds, and red pepper sauce. Of course, Sorn Thai offers mimosas. Try the Thai tea mimosa with vanilla foam cream. Iced Thai Tea Matcha Latte is a refreshing non-alcoholic brunch accompaniment.

Conveniently located in the Chesterbrook Shopping in McLean, Sorn Thai is looking forward to your visit!
