The Gold Medal Wine Trail is the perfect guide for your journey through Virginia’s wine country this spring and summer—connecting you with the best of #vawine along the way. The trail is a mobile passport that brings all 65 gold medal winning wineries from the 2022 Virginia Governor’s Cup® competition right to your fingertips.
One of the nation’s most stringent wine competitions, the annual Virginia Governor’s Cup® recognizes the high caliber of quality wines being produced here in Virginia. After sampling a record-breaking 615 entries, world-class judges awarded 65 wineries, cideries, and meaderies across the Commonwealth with 127 gold medals. Discover all the award-winning wines here.
By signing up for free at taste.virginiawine.org, passholders will have access to the Gold Medal Wine Trail on their mobile device through December 31, 2022. Many wineries are offering their own special offers, discounts, and prizes to sweeten the deal.
That’s not all—beginning this month, passholders who have earned five or more check-ins will be automatically entered into a monthly raffle through October for a $100 gift card to one of 11 case-winning wineries or Albemarle Ciderworks, this year’s Best in Show Cider award recipient.
With every check-in you get closer to an exclusive Virginia Wine prize. At 15 check-ins, passholders are eligible to redeem for a Virginia Wine hat. Twenty check-ins earn a “Toast Local” apron. After reaching 30 check-ins, passholders receive a special framed Virginia Wine Country art print.
Virginia is home to over 300 wineries. The Gold Medal Wine Trail provides the perfect sampling of Virginia Wine with wide representation from Central Virginia, Northern Virginia, Shenandoah Valley, and Hampton Roads—regions bringing Virginia Wine to new heights. From wineries across the state being recognized to over 20 different varietals earning a gold medal, the competition results continue to highlight the diversity of excellence happening here.
“From the mastery of Meritage blends to the evident understanding of varieties like Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and the exploration of unique varieties like Petit Manseng, the caliber of Virginia wines continues to impress,” said Jay Youmans, MW and judging director of the Governor’s Cup® competition since 2011.
