Centuries of visitors have found an ideal escape in historic Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, a perfect place to spend a day, a weekend, a week, or even a full summer season! George Washington visited “ye fam’d warm springs” often, beginning with his first visit as a 16-year-old surveyor in 1748. During the Victorian era large groups from the Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh areas traveled by train and stagecoach to escape the withering heat of the cities, often staying in the Town of Bath for the entire summer.

Today, visitors still flock to Berkeley Springs to unwind.

In the heart of Berkeley Springs, guests experience the same warm mineral springs that have attracted for generations. Groups come to “take the waters” and indulge in the myriad of treatments that can be found at the numerous spas and healing centers, while also enjoying the small town arts community, savoring fine dining, and shopping at unique boutiques.

Cacapon Resort State Park, located just 10 miles south of Berkeley Springs, offers a gorgeous newly renovated and expanded lodge that overlooks the award-winning Robert Trent Jones golf course. With dozens of recently updated cabins, visitors can enjoy competition level mountain biking trails, miles of hiking trails, a wobble clay shooting range, horseback riding, lake swimming, and more. A large indoor pool, hot tub, and fitness center adjoin the new restaurant, lounge, and outdoor patio where fire pits glow in the evenings. One of the newest additions to the park is “glamping,” provided by Tentrr.

From the stately historic downtown inn to quaint bed and breakfast establishments, choosing the perfect place to spend the night creates the most memorable visit. Waterfront cabins along the steady Cacapon River, lazy Sleepy Creek, or nearby Potomac River offer a cool getaway while private forested mountain cabins offer a quiet refuge to escape everyday stress.

Two breweries, a winery and weekends replete with live music complement a host of seasonal events like the Apple Butter Festival held annually over Columbus Day weekend.
