Fans of Elle Cosimano’s Finlay Donovan books can soon see the story brought to life on TV. Tina Fey and Lang Fisher will adapt the books for a Peacock series. The popular adult mystery series is set in Northern Virginia.

Cosimano confirmed the news on social media Wednesday, writing: “I am elated! I am floating!!! This is the announcement dreams are made of, and this team is everything!!! Who’s ready for a TV series?!?!”

No details on a projected release date or casting have been announced.

The books follow Finlay Donovan, a single mother and struggling writer who gets mistaken for an assassin and offered money to carry out a kill for hire.

“It’s a rompy, fun, lighthearted, heartfelt series of mysteries that Finlay has to solve along the way,” Cosimano said in a 2025 interview. Cosimano, who lives in Virginia, spent years living in the DMV area and used South Riding as the primary setting.

The first book, Finlay Donovan Is Killing It, came out in 2022. Today, there are seven books in the series.

In Finlay Donovan Crosses the Line, which came out March 17, Donovan’s “nanny and partner-in-crime” has been extradited to Maryland and is facing criminal theft charges, and Donovan works to prove her innocence.

Cosimano is also the author of a standalone mystery called Staged and several young adult novels. She has a forthcoming mystery novel with author Hannah Morrissey called Home for the Homicides, out October 13.
