An investigation into noise complaints in Arlington led to the arrest of a 77-year-old man on charges he was making firebombs, according to Arlington County Fire Department’s Office of the Fire Marshal.
The fire marshal started the investigation on August 20 after Bluemont residents along the Custis Trail reported a series of loud noises. The complaints were centered around the 5700 block of Washington Boulevard, a residential neighborhood.
The fire marshal’s office identified Charles Peters as a person of interest. After a search warrant was executed Friday morning, Peters was arrested.
He’s been charged with five counts that involve manufacturing, possession, and use of firebombs or explosive materials or devices. He’s being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
The fire marshal’s office said that there is no ongoing threat to the public, but that the investigation is continuing.
