Inova Fairfax once again took the top spot as Virginia’s best hospital on U.S. News & World Report’s annual list.
This is the fourth consecutive year Inova Fairfax picked up the top spot in Virginia. It also tied for first place with MedStar Washington Hospital Center for the best hospital in the DC metro area.
Virginia Hospital Center, which tied for fourth place in the DC area with George Washington University Hospital, came in sixth in Virginia.
The annual rankings look at 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions at nearly 5,000 hospitals.

“Ranking No. 1 in the state and the region for four years in a row underscores our relentless commitment to providing clinical excellence and compassionate care to every patient in every community we are privileged to serve,” said Dr. J. Stephen Jones, president and CEO of Inova.
The other top Virginia hospitals are VCU Medical Center in Richmond at No. 2 and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, which tied with Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and the University of Virginia Medical Center for No. 3.
Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg ranked as the seventh best hospital in Virginia, tied with Winchester Medical Center.
Inova Fair Oaks Hospital came in at 11th in the state, tied with Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals in Richmond. Inova Fair Oaks also ranked No. 8 in the DC area.
Inova Fairfax ranked No. 36 nationwide for obstetrics and gynecology and No. 46 in the U.S. for neonatology.
