The Oakmont Rec Center in Oakton will close its doors for one month this summer while it undergoes renovations. The center, formerly called the Oakmarr Rec Center, closes on August 19 and reopens on September 14.
This closure will allow Fairfax County’s Park Authority to tackle several building maintenance projects. These include work on the exhaust system and HVAC; painting, shelving, and furniture upgrades; bathroom upgrades; ceiling and lighting repairs; and roof replacements and skylight/atrium updates.
The closure is scheduled for after summer camp programs have been completed.
Oakmont Rec Center is home to a fitness room with weight lifting and cardio machines, a heated Olympic-size lap pool, child care programs, and courts for sports such as racquetball and handball. Outside, the center has 58 acres of land, with golf facilities, a mini golf course, and two soccer fields.
Though the center will close, the Oakmont Golf Center will remain open, and the Oakmont Farmers Market will still happen from 8 a.m. to noon. every Wednesday.
For rec center members who don’t want to miss out on the county’s amenities during the closure, there is the nearby Spring Hill Rec Center in McLean and Providence Rec Center in Falls Church.
To pause a membership, members can request at the front desk before the closure begins or submit an online request.
