Studio Bleu in Ashburn to be Featured in New ‘Dance Moms’ Reboot

“Dance Moms: A New Era” launches on Hulu next month, and NoVA viewers may spot some familiar faces.

A new reboot of the popular — and often drama-filled — reality show Dance Moms is coming to Hulu this summer and will focus on Asburn dance studio Studio Bleu.

The streaming service released a teaser trailer for Dance Moms: A New Era on social media Tuesday, featuring Studio Bleu Dance Center coach Gloria Hampton and a group of six dancers. It premieres on Hulu on August 7.

“This will be the biggest challenge of my career. I’m coaching the next big team,” Hampton said in the trailer. “I can replace anyone at any time.”

“Coach Glo must juggle her tiny but mighty dancers, their scheming moms, and ensuing meltdowns, all while ruling with a tender but tough iron fist,” the show’s synopsis reads. “Will Glo and her dance team persevere amidst the dramatics?”

This new series calls back to the original Dance Moms, which premiered in 2011 and ran for eight seasons. It followed the Abby Lee Dance Company competition team, led by Abby Lee Miller. The show was notorious for showing high tensions among coaches, young dancers, and parents.

Rumors circulated for months that Studio Bleu would be the topic of a reality show. The Burn reported in January that people had spotted camera crews going in and out of the studio.

Studio Bleu is a well-known dance company, whose dancers have performed in high-profile settings like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. In addition to a competition team, the studio also offers recreational classes and summer camps.

Jennifer Rodriguez, a NoVA parent whose daughter attended the studio for six years (but was not involved in the filming of Dance Moms), says she believes the studio’s strong reputation may have contributed to the attention it is getting now.

“The reputation of our studio, out in the community and out in the world — we’ve had dancers go on to do so many things out in the world,” she says. “It’s just an awesome studio. They have great training, and the students are just amazing, and the staff is very supportive.”

It’s an exciting time for the students and families who know the studio as they prepare to see familiar faces on-screen, Rodriquez says. “It’s just very exciting to see our studio be out there and getting recognized for all the amazing work they do.”
