Willing Warriors unveiled the new PenFed Grand Lodge at its Willing Warriors Retreat at Bull Run on May 18. The new lodge will further the organization’s mission to provide cost-free retreats and services for injured and ill service members, veterans, and their families.
During these retreat stays, visitors can receive services such as post-traumatic stress counseling, counseling for military sexual assault survivors, job skills training, military youth STEM programs, and more.
The Warriors Retreat at Bull Run first opened in 2015, and in that time, it has hosted over 2,400 veterans, service members, and family members. The goal of these retreats is to “renew the family bond.”
The Grand Lodge joins two other retreat homes that are located on the 37-acre property in Haymarket. This new facility will enable the organization to assist over 600 more people per year.
The facility includes a 2,000-square-foot multipurpose activity area where educational programming will take place, six large bedrooms, and a kitchen. There is also a 2,000-square-foot outdoor recreation area called the Patriot Pavilion, sponsored by General Carter and Christi Ham.
The PenFed Credit Union and PenFed Foundation provided funding for the retreat, with $500,000 of matching funds. Several community partners sponsored rooms, including Lockheed Martin, JANSON, Strategic ACI, Inc., Contract Solutions, Inc., Home Depot Foundation, The Neal Nichols Family Foundation, and The Robert Trent Jones Foundation.
