Fire Departments from NoVA and Maryland Lend a Hand for Firefighter Trevor Brown’s Funeral

Crews from Fairfax, Prince William, and beyond helped staff Loudoun stations during the service yesterday.

While the community gathered in Leesburg on Monday to honor firefighter Trevor Brown, who died in a Sterling house explosion on February 16, fire departments from around the region stepped in to lend a hand.

Crews from fire departments all over the DMV filled in to staff firehouses throughout Loudoun County, clearing the way for Loudoun County firefighters to attend Brown’s funeral. Trucks from places including Annandale, Gaithersburg, Alexandria, and many more were parked in fire station apparatus bays in communities around Loudoun for the day so they would be ready to respond to any emergencies that came up.

“Thank you to all those departments that covered for us, we will always remember it,” said the Loudoun Career Firefighters Association in a Facebook post.

The Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, where Brown volunteered as a firefighter, responded, “So humbled. So thankful,” in a post.

A spokesperson from the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System said that crews from around the region helped staff the fire stations, though all command staff were from Loudoun County. There was no decrease in service to Loudoun County, LCCFRS said — in fact, “we had an extra surge of capacity units in service.”

Units that filled in include:

  • Arlington County
  • City of Alexandria
  • Clarke County
  • Fairfax County
  • Frederick County, Maryland
  • Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority
  • Montgomery County, Maryland
  • Mount Weather
  • Prince William County

Brown’s funeral took place at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, where an estimated 3,000 guests gathered, including several in fire vehicles. Governor Glenn Youngkin spoke at the service, saying “The magnitude of our collective loss is felt far and wide.”
