2 Teens Charged in Arlington Fentanyl Death

The two 19-year-olds were charged in the death of a man found unresponsive in a stairwell in March.

By Rick Massimo July 13, 2023 at 11:37 am

Two teenagers have been charged in the fatal fentanyl overdose of a man in Arlington in March.

Shan Mehmood, 19, of Arlington, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, distribution of fentanyl, possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl, and possession of a firearm while possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute, the Arlington police said in a statement Wednesday. He’s being held at the Arlington County Detention Center.

Eliana Ayelen Mendoza, 19, of Fairfax, is charged with accessory after the fact to manslaughter, the police said; she’s been released on bond.

The charges come after a man was found unresponsive in the stairwell of a residential building in the 1200 block of North Scott Street, just north of Fairfax Drive in the Courthouse area, in the evening of March 7. He died at a hospital the next day; the medical examiner declared acute fentanyl intoxication as the cause of death.

If you know anything more about the case, the police are asking you to call their tip line at 703-228-4180, email them at [email protected] or call the Arlington County Crime Solvers hotline anonymously at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
