Ashburn Teen’s Run on The Voice Comes to an End

Mary Kate Connor’s musical quest on NBC is over. Blake Shelton said she did a “great job.”

By Will Vitka May 3, 2023 at 11:33 am

Mary Kate Connor’s journey on The Voice ended Monday.

The Ashburn teen sang The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young” during her run in playoffs, but wasn’t picked by coach Blake Shelton to continue to the semifinals.

“What you did ultimately was deliver the message in a way that was believable and authentic and real,” Shelton said after Connor’s performance. “Great job.”

But it wasn’t enough to get the coach’s vote.

On Instagram, Connor called the situation “bittersweet.”

“It’s sad that this beautiful chapter of my life is coming to an end, but I could not be more grateful to have experienced something like this,” she wrote. “To Team Blake, thank you for encouraging and supporting me, even though all my breakdowns and stress. I could not ask for better people to lean on through this time.”

Connor said that though her adventure on The Voice is over, it’s just the beginning for her: She’s heading to James Madison University in the fall and plans to pursue her dreams of producing music.
