Pet Adoption Fees in Loudoun Temporarily Waived

Loudoun County Animal Services has too many dogs, and needs people to adopt or become foster dog parents.

By Colleen Kelleher March 16, 2023 at 10:40 am

Loudoun County will waive pet adoption fees through Sunday, March 19, for all animals over a year old as the county deals with an influx of homeless pets.

In particular, the county needs people who want to adopt or foster adult dogs.

Loudoun County Animal Services saw the number of dogs in its care more than double from 93 to 210 from December 6 to March 6.

The county said in a news release that several factors contributed to the additional shelter dogs, namely that families are having trouble making ends meet or cannot find pet-inclusive housing.

“So many of these pets had loving families, and through no fault of their own now need a new place to call home,” said Melissa Heard, operations manager for Loudoun County Animal Services. “While we work with as many families as possible to help them keep their pets, right now we are in critical need of adopters and temporary fosters willing to take adult dogs.”

To foster a dog, you will need to fill out an application.
