As of Thursday morning, Virginia had 80,393 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 7,351 people hospitalized, 2,051 deaths and 951,174 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 15,078 to date, with 1,793 hospitalized and 510 deaths. Arlington has reported 2,763 cases with 431 hospitalized and 135 deaths. Alexandria has 2,618 cases with 256 hospitalized and 56 deaths. Loudoun County has 4,738 cases with 324 hospitalized and 106 deaths and Prince William County has 10,287 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 909 hospitalized and 192 deaths. Maryland reported 80,172 cases, Virginia reported 80,393 and Washington, DC reported 11,529. The death toll has reached a total of 5,900, with 3,276 in Maryland, 2,051 in Virginia and 580 in DC. Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser issued a new executive order on the afternoon of July 22, requiring that all residents wear masks outside of the home, as the battle against the coronavirus continues. The order, which allows for fines of up to $1,000 per violation but won’t be enforced on children under the age of 3 and people who are actively eating and drinking, comes as the nation’s capital has been experiencing a spike in cases. On Wednesday, the District reported 102 new coronavirus cases—the most added in a single day since June 4, bringing its total cases to 11,529. (The Hill)

Today’s game against the New York Yankees will be the start to Major League Baseball’s 60-game season, however Nats Park will be without fans and new health precautions are put in place. More than 1,100 new coronavirus deaths were reported across the United States on Wednesday evening, marking the first time since May 29 that the daily count exceeded that number, according to data compiled by The Washington Post. Now, the U.S. is nearing 4 million coronavirus cases, and California has become the state with the most confirmed coronavirus infections, surpassing New York at 410,000.
