As of Monday morning, Virginia had 65,748 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 6,418 people hospitalized, 1,853 deaths and 706,588 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 14,153 to date, with 1,660 hospitalized and 496 deaths. Arlington has reported 2,533 cases with 421 hospitalized and 131 deaths. Alexandria has 2,376 cases with 239 hospitalized and 57 deaths. Loudoun County has 4,207 cases with 278 hospitalized and 90 deaths and Prince William County has 9,465 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 823 hospitalized and 171 deaths. Maryland reported 69,632 cases, Virginia reported 65,748 and Washington, DC reported 10,482 The death toll has reached a total of 5,530, with 3,118 in Maryland, 1,853 in Virginia and 559 in DC. Fairfax County teachers are advocating to stay out of the classroom this fall, insisting they need a safe workplace to keep their families safe, while still providing education for the region’s students. The county’s plan still remains for teachers and students to be able to opt for full-time remote learning, or hybrid in-person and virtual learning. Students and teachers must let the county know of their decision by July 10. (WTOP)

Two Washington Nationals players have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the proposed shortened MLB season. The two players, who the organization did not identify, were found positive during intake testing after the 60-player team was to return to Washington, DC for modified spring training. (WTOP)
Statewide
Both Virginia and Northern Virginia reported the highest daily number of new coronavirus cases in almost a month on Saturday, July 4. NoVA reported 256 new cases, and 716 statewide. “Northern Virginia now accounts for 50.1% of the state’s total of 65,109 cases, the health department reported. Northern Virginia’s share of the total cases, once nearly 60%, has been slowly declining in recent weeks,” according to InsideNoVA. For a breakdown by locality, check here. (InsideNoVA)

The United States reported 43,347 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, with Arizona and Nevada reporting their highest numbers of coronavirus hospitalizations to date. Seven-day case averages in 12 states hit new highs, with the most significant upticks in West Virginia, Tennessee and Montana. (The Washington Post)
