As of Monday morning, Virginia had 61,736 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 6,136 people hospitalized, 1,732 deaths and 625,663 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 13,778 to date, with 1,607 hospitalized and 473 deaths. Arlington has reported 2,464 cases with 417 hospitalized and 132 deaths. Alexandria has 2,312 cases with 238 hospitalized and 57 deaths. Loudoun County has 3,932 cases with 265 hospitalized and 87 deaths and Prince William County has 9,019 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 790 hospitalized and 160 deaths. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, tallied in at 138,761 in the DMV on Monday morning. Maryland reported 66,777 cases, Virginia reported 61,736 and Washington, DC reported 10,248. The death toll has reached a total of 5,324, with 3,042 in Maryland, 1,732 in Virginia and 550 in DC. WMATA is rerouting certain bus routes to accommodate for an increase in ridership starting today, June 29. The agency is adding 136 trips across 14 routes, including lines 54, 70, 92, 30N, 30S, A4, A6, A8, P6, V4, W4, F4, P12 and T18. The additional routes aim to avoid overcrowding in buses on the region’s busiest bus routes as the DMV continues to reopen during the pandemic. As a reminder, Metro also reopened several stations yesterday, including Clarendon and Virginia Square after a months-long shutdown due to COVID-19. (WTOP)

Florida, Texas and Arizona are emerging as the nation’s newest epicenters, as positive rates of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations have spiked. All three locations reported record-breaking highs of new infections for weeks in a row. In response, testing centers have been overwhelmed with residents, leading to long lines and extended wait times. (The Washington Post)

The world hit several grim milestones over the weekend, with over 500,000 deaths reported from the novel coronavirus, and the confirmed number of cases surpassing 10 million.
