Virginia ranks in the top 15 most patriotic states in America

According to new data by WalletHub, Virginia is pure red, white and blue.

By Holly Gambrell June 25, 2020 at 1:48 pm

Fourth of July celebrations are bound to be more subtle this year due to the pandemic, with fireworks shows being canceled and family gatherings shrinking in size for safety. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t things to celebrate about being an American.

And, Virginians have something to boast about this Fourth of July, as the commonwealth was recently ranked in the top 15 most patriotic states in the nation.

Released by personal-finance website WalletHub, the report, titled 2020’s Most Patriotic States in America, lists Virginia as the 13th most patriotic. To determine the findings, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 13 key indicators of patriotism, including the number of a state’s military enlistees and veterans, the share of adults who voted in the 2016 presidential election and AmeriCorps volunteers per capita.

Virginia ranked eighth in the average number of military enlistees per 1,000 civilian adults; was first in the number of active-duty military personnel per 100,000 civilian adults; fourth in the number of Peace Corps volunteers per capita; and third in veterans per 1,000 civilian adults.
