As of Wednesday morning, Virginia had 46,239 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 4,770 people hospitalized, 1,407 deaths and 328,889 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 11,426 to date, with 1,358 hospitalized and 391 deaths. Arlington has reported 2,133 cases with 377 hospitalized and 117 deaths. Alexandria has 2,000 cases with 193 hospitalized and 44 deaths. Loudoun County has 2,636 cases with 165 hospitalized and 67 deaths and Prince William County has 7,186 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 578 hospitalized and 121 deaths. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, tallied in at 109,300 in the DMV on Wednesday morning. Maryland reported 54,175 cases, Virginia reported 46,239 and Washington, DC reported 8,886. The death toll has reached a total of 4,351, with 2,474 in Maryland, 1,407 in Virginia and 470 in DC. Virginia’s phase two of reopening and lifting of restrictions from the global pandemic will start Friday, June 5, but Northern Virginia will be excluded for now. To recap, Northern Virginia opened two weeks after the rest of the commonwealth, lifting restrictions in phase one starting May 29. In his announcement on Tuesday, Gov. Ralph Northam did not give a timeline on when Northern Virginia will enter phase two, and said the additional time will “allow for additional monitoring of health data.” In the remainder of Virginia, phase two guidelines include increasing the size of social gatherings from 10 to 50, restaurants will be able to operate at 50% capacity for indoor service, and fitness centers can reopen at 30% capacity. It is unknown when a projected phase two date will be announced for the Northern Virginia region. (ARL Now)

Northern Virginia companies have received over $1 billion in federal government contracts related to COVID-19 this year, according to an InsideNoVA analysis of ProPublica data. “The largest contract in Virginia to date and the sixth largest contract nationwide went to a Herndon company, RER Solutions Inc., for data analysis and loan recommendation services provided to the Small Business Administration. That contract is valued at $500 million. Other COVID-19-related contracts awarded to Virginia companies went for services such as telecommunications, networking, hardware and software to help federal agencies convert to teleworking and arrange virtual meetings, as well as for personal protective equipment and other supplies necessitated by the pandemic,” according to InsideNoVA.
