As of Friday, May 22, the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts has canceled all of its 2020 summer performances, from May through September, due to the ongoing effects of the coronavirus throughout the DMV.
In a public statement, President and CEO Arvind Manocha said the following:
“It is with profound sadness that I announce that we are canceling the summer 2020 concert season. For the first time in nearly 50 years, the Filene Center and Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods at Wolf Trap National Park and The Barns at Wolf Trap will not host live performances from May through September. The continued health and well-being of the Wolf Trap community of patrons, artists and staff are of paramount importance to us. Concern for the welfare of all makes summer gatherings for performances unfeasible.”
Summer performances at Wolf Trap typically attract thousands of people from around the country and as such, several industry leaders, government and health officials and artists worked with the organization’s staff to come to this difficult decision for the safety of all attendees.
While live performances will not be taking place, the Wolf Trap Foundation will continue to bring performing arts experiences to avid supporters at home through educational programmings, virtual performance opportunities for emerging talent in the field and other services online for kids and adults alike.
For those who have already purchased tickets to a live performance for the summer season, ticket holders have several options. They can either donate all or a portion of the ticket value to the Wolf Trap Foundation’s Music Moves Us fund, helping to mitigate the impact of the season cancellation, exchange tickets for a Wolf Trap gift card or receive a full refund.
