OmniRide commuters affected by labor dispute; Route 29 to reopen

PRTC OmniRide in Prince William County and Manassas has begun a work stoppage, affecting thousands of commuters as the bus drivers’ union attempts to negotiate a better contract. A modified version of the Emergency Service Plan is in place and all buses affected by the service changes are free. (WTOP)

Northbound U.S. 29 will reopen Friday night after four weeks of construction between Gainesville and Warrenton. The project stemmed from safety concerns of hills on the route, which have now been blasted away. (Inside NoVA)

During the summer shutdown of Metro’s Blue and Yellow lines, Alexandria has released a report of its impact on the city. More traffic, more biking, more people taking the water taxi, an additional 30 minutes added to commute times and more than one million shuttle trips thus far were key findings of the report. Azalea Charities, a Dumfries-based organization, will present Navy veteran Dan Hika of Pennsylvania with a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica van adapted to his special needs. Hika  suffered a spinal cord injury in 2012 and is a C5-C6 quadriplegic. (Inside NoVA)
