The Arlington County Board has voted to remove the pedestrian tunnel under Route 1 and 23rd Street in Crystal City. The city believes it is too difficult to maintain and should be replaced with a street-level crosswalk. If the project is approved by VDOT, the removal will begin in the fall and last up to six weeks. (WTOP)

Johns Hopkins University has announced its informal plans for the Newseum property on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. The university is expected to turn the building into a state-of-the-art educational facility, but will begin with the removal of the oversized First Amendment tablet and other notable exterior features of the museum. Big Lots! is set to open in Woodbridge’s former Toys ‘R’ Us property, near Potomac Mills. The site, located at 14603 Telegraph Road, has been empty since the toy selling company filed for bankruptcy in spring 2018. So far, only one open position for the location has been posted. (Inside NoVA)

Seventeen-year-old Jennifer Yu of Ashburn will be competing in the U.S. Junior Championship of Chess in St. Louis, an invitation-only event. Yu has been competing in national and international competitions since she was 10 years old. She’ll be competing in a group of 10 as the only female. (Loudoun Times-Mirror)
