DC celebrates Independence Day; Dulles Airport has highest airfare average

There were thousands of differing opinions on how the Independence Day holiday went down in Washington, DC. President Donald Trump’s Salute to America event on Thursday was followed by the annual Capital Fourth celebration, and the celebratory atmosphere brought together supporters of the president, protesters, tourists and firework-enthusiasts. Based on data from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Dulles International Airport had the highest airfare average price in the United States in 2018. The average was $427.37 per ticket, whereas Ronald Reagan Domestic Airport’s average came in at $357.42. (WTOP)

Gov. Ralph Northam announced that roughly $73 million will go to the Virginia Agricultural Best Management Practices Cost-Share Program this year, which provides farmers statewide with the opportunity to improve erosion control, wetland preservation and nutrient management. (Loudoun Times-Mirror)

Publix Super Markets is set to open its first location in Stafford County. The grocery store chain signed a lease for a new location at Embrey Mill Town Center and is projected to open in early 2021. The store will be roughly 48,000 square feet and will employ 130 people. (Inside NoVA)
