On July 1, Virginia businesses will now be able to advertise happy hour specials. Previously, a law prevented marketing signs such as “Wine Wednesday,” at all businesses across the state. The new legislation was signed by Gov. Ralph Northam under the pretense that the advertising doesn’t induce alcohol over-consumption or consumption by minors. (Loudoun Times-Mirror)
Parents, guardians and caregivers will need to follow a new car seat law as of July 1, where children 2 years old and younger must remain in a rear-facing car seat until they reach the weight requirement as suggested by the seat’s manufacturer. A similar law went into effect in Washington, DC in March. (ARL Now)
With hopes of an Orange Line extension from Vienna towards Centreville in the future, the construction to widen local bridges would need to occur during the toll-lane construction process that’s currently underway. According to the Fairfax County State Board of Supervisors, that widening would cost 43% more now than originally planned in 2017 at $40 million. (WTOP)
Fredericksburg Baseball is set to move forward with its construction in early July on the new $35 million ballpark, with plans of opening in April 2020. The Potomac Nationals will be moving from Woodbridge to the Fredericksburg area, and the organization will reveal the new team name and logo in the fall. (Inside NoVA)
